The Mierisch family has been cultivating Nicaragua Finca Javanica coffee for over 100 years. As a family-run operation, they produce high-quality, shade-grown coffee. Today, they own 11 coffee farms in Nicaragua and 3 in Honduras.
In Nicaragua Finca Javanica coffee, the farms are located in the Matagalpa and Jinotega regions. Matagalpa hosts 8 farms, including Los Placeres. Each farm has its unique soil composition and microclimate, which differentiates their coffee quality management.
Javanica is essentially the Java variety grown in Nicaragua. It gained fame when Don Esteban Mierisch researched and revived a series of coffee beans that were about to be discarded in 2001. Despite its high quality, the Java variety became less common due to its susceptibility to disease. Thanks to the Mierisch family’s efforts, they have now become Nicaragua’s largest producer of this coffee variety, sought after for its rich and diverse flavor profiles.
