The 74110 and 74112 coffee varieties are locally selected and developed by researchers at the Jimma Agricultural Research Center (JARC) to resist harmful pests. Both varieties begin with “74” to indicate their catalog at the center since 1974.
Both varieties are selected from the original “mother plant” in Bishari village, Metu province, Illuababora region, and Oromia. These plants are also small and compact, disease-resistant, and yield well. Both varieties thrive in similar climatic conditions as the original mother plants.
Situated at an elevation of 2,200 – 2,500 m, the harvesting time here is more than a month slower than other production regions. The unique climate enhances the coffee’s flavor, and the longer growing time results in a higher sucrose content compared to lower-elevation coffee, yielding rich and pleasant fruity flavors.
Additionally, the Wate processing mill is a state-of-the-art facility that meets high standards. Various processing methods, according to the specifications of the modern equipment at the mill, improve experimental production systems and enhance coffee development in the region.
