Panama Gesha coffee originated in 1936 when an English captain isolated the wild coffee species in the Gesha region of Ethiopia. The seeds were packed and exported to Central America due to their high resistance to coffee leaf rust. Genetic studies confirm this trajectory—Panama Gesha coffee shares close traits with wild samples from Gesha, Ethiopia.
