After the post about the espresso machine Nanopresso, 3C received many requests to introduce the Staresso Mirage machine and the Bottomless accessory to experience with this device. Today, let’s explore it together!
What is Staresso Mirage? What is Bottomless?

Staresso Mirage is known as one of the most popular coffee-making tools today. For those interested in coffee brewing accessories, this is no longer a strange “toy.”
A Staresso Mirage set includes:
- Coffee measuring spoon
- Pressure pump
- Water chamber
- Coffee powder holder
- Integrated double spout pressure valve
- Coffee cup
- User manual
The Staresso coffee maker operates without batteries or electricity; instead, just a few pumps will allow you to easily obtain a cup of coffee with a thick and creamy layer like the flavor you can enjoy from a real Italian café.
This handheld coffee maker not only helps you brew excellent espressos but also creates a very delicious and beautiful milk foam that is richer in coffee flavor than other products!
About Bottomless
What is Bottomless? Simply put, the structure of the Staresso Mirage machine has a pressure-holding valve and a double-shot outlet. Instead of using the regular valve and double-shot outlet, we will extract the coffee through a bottomless basket (as shown below). Using Bottomless requires more skill. However, it’s also a very interesting experience, and the results are truly rewarding: prettier, richer, and with a thicker crema. 3C has noted some tips for you to experience Bottomless in the best way.

Things to Note When Using Bottomless and Staresso Mirage
For Bottomless
- Grind Size: Finer
- Coffee Amount: Larger
The pressure depends on the fineness of the coffee. Since Bottomless has no pressure valve like when using the machine’s regular portafilter, to achieve sufficient extraction pressure for espresso, be sure to grind the coffee finer and use a slightly larger coffee amount compared to using the machine’s standard portafilter.
Example:
- Case 1: When using the Staresso Mirage, weigh 1Zpresso Q2 to extract espresso; the standard coffee amount is 18 – 20 grams, ground at click 35 of 1Zpresso Q2.
- Case 2: When using Bottomless for Staresso Mirage, weigh 1Zpresso Q2; the coffee amount should increase to 20-22 grams (depending on the type of bean) and grind at click 30 of 1Zpresso Q2.
- Finished Coffee: Stop extraction once you have obtained 60ml of espresso.
- Tamping Pressure: To brew Bottomless coffee correctly, you should equip yourself with a tamper of 51mm or 53mm depending on the coffee basket you are using to ensure perfect tamping pressure.
- Barista Skills: Brewing espresso using Bottomless requires the barista to have more skills, as all processes are intricate and require high precision. The barista needs to practice and perform continuously to improve brewing skills.
For Staresso Mirage
Cleaning the Staresso Mirage machine:
- Only wash the machine by hand; do not put it in the dishwasher.
- Do not place the machine in the microwave.
- Pay attention to small components like the stainless steel filter and silicone gasket at the pressure valve when using. Avoid dropping or losing these parts, as they can affect the operation of the Staresso Mirage machine.
