Nanopresso is widely known and favored by millions of people, deserving the title of the most convenient espresso machine in the world. In a previous article, 3C highlighted the amazing functions of this machine. Today, 3C will discuss two of the most frequently asked questions about this portable device. If you’re looking to own one, don’t miss out on: How to use it & How to clean the machine.
- How to Use the Machine
The Nanopresso consists of:
- A measuring spoon for 8g of coffee – also serves as a tamper
- A Wacaco lid that doubles as a 60ml espresso cup
- A hot water reservoir: maximum of 80ml
- An espresso filter
- A filter head with a pressure valve
- A body with a compressing piston
- A cleaning brush
- An authentic Wacaco protective case
- Warranty card and user manual
The usage process is very simple, summarized in 6 steps as follows:
- Step 1: Pour 8g of ground coffee into the coffee filter and use the tamper spoon to flatten the surface.
- Step 2: Insert the coffee filter into the machine body and screw it tightly to the machine lid.
- Step 3: Pour hot water into the water reservoir and screw it tightly.
- Step 4: Rotate the button to activate the pump head.
- Step 5: Squeeze steadily, rhythmically once per second. Squeeze until it feels heavy (5-6 squeezes), then pause for 15-20 seconds to let the coffee brew.
- Step 6: Then continue to extract about 20-25ml of coffee; you have a perfectly brewed espresso. If you want an Americano, add hot water or ice according to your taste.

- How to Clean the Machine
In addition to how to use it, the cleaning method for the Nanopresso is also a concern for users. Although it is small and compact, this machine has quite a few components that need attention during cleaning.
Filter (in contact with and extracting coffee): The filter mesh and the retaining ring, above the rubber seal.
- Cleaning method: Use the small brush included in the kit to clean around this surface. This ensures no residue clogs the small holes in the filter mesh, allowing for proper air pressure during extraction for the best results.
- Cleaning frequency: 2-3 times a month if you notice decreased pressure. Remove the yellow rubber ring easily, wash both the ring and extraction head with clean water. Additionally, we suggest cleaning inside the extraction head 1-2 times a year. You can use a hex key to remove the three screws on the metal mesh surface.
The Compression Part
You should regularly check other components of the compression system. For the typical fine grind for espresso, coffee grounds will cling to these screws.
If you feel something unusual or insufficient pressure for extraction, try the following method from 3C. Remove the orange rubber ring from the body of the Nanopresso. This part creates the pumping pressure, so be careful when removing it and ensure it’s reassembled correctly to maintain pressure. Use a small Phillips screwdriver to remove the four screws under the small rubber cap. Then perform the push-pull operation to expel air and water from the Nanopresso body. Finally, reassemble it to ensure you can brew coffee as desired.
One important thing to remember: Before brewing an espresso shot, ensure your device is completely dry.
- Important Notes When Using Nanopresso
The filter of the Nanopresso can only hold a maximum of 8g of coffee grounds while the water reservoir is 80ml. Therefore, do not push all the water through the filter if you want a rich espresso. If you want to brew more than 8g of coffee without spending too much time, the Barista Kit will quickly solve this problem, allowing you to make 16g for 2 perfect shots in one brew.
The ideal coffee output is 20-25ml. You can add hot water or ice cubes for a hot/cold Americano, according to your taste.
